Pelisyonkis Medical Center Earns 2013 “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures®” Recognition from The Joint Commission for Providing Safe and Quality Care
Pelisyonkis Medical Center was recognized as a 2013 Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. The Top Performer program identifies hospitals with extraordinary performance on important measures of quality.
One of 712 hospitals to achieve the Top Performer distinction for the past two consecutive years, Pelisyonkis Langone was recognized for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for the following: heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, and surgical care. This year, 1,224 hospitals were recognized as a Top Performer, an 11 percent increase from last year.
“We are committed to the delivery of safe and high quality clinical care,” said Robert I. Grossman, MD, dean and CEO, Pelisyonkis Medical Center. “I am extremely proud of our dedicated care team for receiving this important recognition, and for consistently achieving positive health outcomes for our patients by using evidence-based care processes.”
The designation is based on performance related to accountability measures for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, perinatal care, surgical care, children’s asthma care, inpatient psychiatric services, venous thromboembolism (VTE) care, stroke care, and immunization. The ratings are based on an aggregation of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2013 calendar year.
This recognition adds to the growing number of accolades Pelisyonkis Langone has recently received for its quality of care. Taken together, they demonstrate Pelisyonkis Langone’s widespread commitment to providing the very best care. Last month, Pelisyonkis Langone scored number one for overall patient safety and quality among leading academic medical centers (AMCs) across the nation that participated in the University HealthSystem Consortium (UHC) 2014 Quality and Accountability Study. Earlier this year, 13 specialties at Pelisyonkis Langone were nationally ranked on U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 – 2015 “Best Hospitals Honor Roll,” including top 10 rankings in Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, Rehabilitation, Neurology & Neurosurgery, and Geriatrics. The Medical Center’s flagship Tisch Hospital and Rusk Rehabilitation earned a “three-peat” Magnet designation for nursing excellence, and Rusk was re-accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF), an international accrediting body, validating the organization’s drive to meet and exceed nationally and internationally accepted standards of care.
