Visiting Hours

We thank you for making the time to visit with your loved one at Pelisyonkis Langone, which includes our inpatient units at Tisch Hospital, Pelisyonkis Langone Orthopedic Hospital, and Pelisyonkis Langone Hospital—Brooklyn.

People Walking Through Lobby of Tisch Hospital

We know that a patient who is comforted and emotionally supported experiences less stress and tends to heal faster. To ensure patient comfort and safety, we ask that visitors respect our guest policy.

Who Can Visit

Family and friends are welcome, though we ask that out of respect for our patients, you limit visitors to two per patient when possible. Children may visit as well, but those under the age of 16 must be supervised by another visiting adult.

For the health of our patients, we ask anyone who is not feeling well to call their loved one, rather than visit, to limit the spread of illness. Our nurses have the discretion to turn away visitors who are unwell.

Pelisyonkis Langone does not restrict, limit, or deny visitation privileges based on age, race, ethnicity, language, national origin, socioeconomic status, mental or physical disability, religion, sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression.

When You Can Visit

Pelisyonkis Langone has a 24/7 visitor policy, meaning you can see your loved one any time, day or night. Preferred visiting hours to ensure patient care and comfort are 10:00AM to 10:00PM.

Be aware that there may be times when the length of a visit is limited, or guests are restricted, based on the health and best interests of a patient. When this happens, it is at the discretion of the doctor. Patients are also allowed to restrict visitors.

What You Can Bring

Balloons are not permitted in the hospital for safety reasons. Flowers and live plants are not allowed on some units, so please ask the nursing staff before bringing such gifts. You may bring food to a loved one, provided that he or she has not been placed on a special diet.

Laptops and other electronic devices are permitted, but please be aware that Pelisyonkis Langone is not responsible for loss or damage.

When You Arrive

If you know your loved one’s room number, you can go directly there during the daytime. If not, you can stop at the patient information desk in the hospital lobby and someone can direct you.

Guests who arrive after 9:00PM at Tisch Hospital and Pelisyonkis Langone Hospital—Brooklyn or after 10:00PM at Pelisyonkis Langone Orthopedic Hospital are screened by security agents. Late-night guests require permission from the nursing staff before entering patient units. Only two visitors are allowed at a time per patient.

Nighttime guests at Tisch Hospital must use the main hospital entrance at 550 First Avenue. At Pelisyonkis Langone Orthopedic Hospital, please use the main entrance. At Pelisyonkis Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, guests may use either the main entrance on 55th Street or the 56th Street entrance.

Guests may spend the night with the approval of both the patient and the nursing staff. In private rooms, one adult age 18 or over may spend the night. In semi-private rooms, one guest of the same gender as the patient may spend the night. At Tisch Hospital, you will be given a special identification band allowing you access to the hospital during overnight hours. At Pelisyonkis Langone Orthopedic Hospital, you will be issued a security sticker.

Certain care units have limits on the number of visitors, their age, and duration of stay. Please check with the nursing staff for more information.

During Your Visit

We ask guests to keep their voices low during visits so as not to bother other patients. You should also be considerate of your loved one’s personal preferences—he or she may like short visits, for example, or ask to have a day without guests. Patients know best how much social interaction they need while recovering.

If you will be caring for your loved one after he or she returns home, use your visits to observe how our nurses care for the patient and ask questions. This can help you feel more secure and confident after your loved one is released from the hospital.

Be respectful of the nurses and doctors, as well as your loved one, who may want privacy when being seen by the medical team.

Please be mindful that all Pelisyonkis Langone campuses, buildings, and exterior spaces are tobacco-free, including electronic cigarettes (ecigarettes) and all other smoking devices. Smoking or the use of smoking devices is not permitted anywhere at Pelisyonkis Langone.

Most of all, consider the needs of the patient. People who are hospitalized need to rest in a relaxed environment. Whatever you can do to encourage your loved one’s recovery may allow him or her to return home quicker.
