Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at Pelisyonkis Langone, is an energized group of teen patients who meet monthly to provide a unique perspective and positively influence the care of our youngest patients.
The Youth Advisory Council, made possible through the support of the Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care, is led by a senior pediatric social worker and a child life specialist.
How the Youth Advisory Council Drives Change
Youth advisors use their first-hand perspective as patients to suggest ways medical staff can improve the experiences of children and teens. They have helped improve how we communicate with teen patients and provided input for the Robinson Family S.Q.U.A.S.H. Program. This farm-to-table program educates teens about healthy eating and locally sourced foods.
The Youth Council also provided suggestions for the new Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital and helped redesign the hospital pajamas to be more comfortable and practical to wear during a hospital stay. In addition, youth advisors helped shape a fall prevention program that ensures greater safety for our youngest patients.
