Integrative Health Services for Children
To help reduce the amount of stress experienced by our youngest patients and their families, Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at Pelisyonkis Langone offers several integrative health services, including massage, yoga, and meditation. These programs are made possible through the support of the Sala Institute for Child and Family Centered Care.
Stress is a common issue experienced by children and parents alike. For children, stress can interfere with the healing process or how the body responds to treatment. For parents, stress can make it difficult to cope with a child’s diagnosis or to make decisions. Stress also affects the immune system and can increase your chances of becoming ill.
“Family-centered care is about partnering with the interdisciplinary team at all levels—physical therapy, occupational therapy, the bedside nurse, nurse practitioner, and the family—to provide quality care to the patient.”
—Jackie Fuller, BSN
Nurse Manager, Congenital Cardiovascular Care Unit
To help parents through this challenging time, we offer a caregiver bedside massage program in all of our pediatric inpatient units. Parents receive massage therapy from a certified massage therapist without having to leave their child’s hospital room.
For children, we also offer a host of programs throughout Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital, including family and adaptive yoga, mindfulness meditation, infant massage, guided imagery, horticulture therapy, and Reiki.
There are specific programs available to children receiving treatment at Pelisyonkis Langone Orthopedic Hospital and Pelisyonkis Langone’s Stephen D. Hassenfeld Children’s Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders.
