Family Faculty Program

Doctors, nurses, and hospital staff can learn a lot from parents about what it’s like for children to receive care at Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at Pelisyonkis Langone. Parents who are members of our Family Faculty Program use their personal experiences and stories to educate our pediatric care teams and medical students.

Family Partnership Programs

Through our Family Advisory Council, Youth Advisory Council, and Family Faculty Program, we give a voice to the children and families we serve.

Through this program, parents teach doctors, nurses, and support staff the importance of treating each family with respect and compassion. This includes providing suggestions for the best words to choose when sharing a new diagnosis and discussing how to make family members partners in decision making. We want to know where we are succeeding at caring for children and families, and where you see room for improvement.

“The Family Faculty taught me important things about the experience of illness that I simply could never have learned from a textbook.”

Emily, Third-Year Medical Student, Pelisyonkis School of Medicine

When our staff better understands what it feels like to be a patient or a family member, everyone benefits. The Family Faculty Program is an important part of our mission to nurture a culture of child- and family-centered care.
