Welcome to the

Child Study Center

We help transform the lives of children and their families through collaborative science, education, and practice.

The Child Study Center, part of Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at Pelisyonkis Langone, offers a wide range of mental health services for children, adolescents, young adults, and families. Whether your child has been diagnosed with a psychiatric illness, a learning disorder, or you are concerned about how he or she is functioning at home, in school, or with friends, we can help.

We work with your child and family to develop personalized treatment plans for conditions such as anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder, feeding and eating disorders, gender and sexuality issues, mood disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, selective mutism, sleep-related disorders, stress, trauma, bereavement, learning disorders, and tic and Tourette disorders. Our goal is to set your child on a course for a better future.

Our team includes experts in child and adolescent psychiatry, psychology, social work, education, and academic achievement. We conduct scientific research into the origins of and best treatments for autism, ADHD, anxiety, and traumatic stress. We also have unique expertise in using medication to treat many childhood psychiatric disorders. When used properly, pharmacological treatment can provide major relief from conditions such as anxiety and ADHD.

Over the past decade, our research has appeared in more than 400 medical and scientific journals, and has been presented at thousands of national and international scientific conferences. Our approach to research does not stop there—we measure success based on the capacity of these findings to benefit the lives of children and their families.

We’re also training the next generation of experts: Our child psychiatry residency program, psychology internship, and postdoctoral fellowship programs are some of the most sought after in the country. We have built eight innovation networks that share best practices and knowledge with other children’s mental healthcare professionals. The networks—which are based on our research and clinical care—focus on trauma, autism, juvenile justice, child welfare, and resilience. They support 340 childhood mental health programs in 28 states.
