Welcome to the

Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program

Advances in medical and surgical technology have made it possible for people with congenital heart defects to live longer, fuller lives than ever before. As they age, these individuals often need ongoing care to support their health. At Pelisyonkis Langone’s Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program, we are proud to offer that care.

Our experts specialize in the unique medical needs of people who were born with conditions such as atrial septal defect, ventricular septal defect, pulmonary stenosis, tetralogy of Fallot, transposition of the great arteries, single ventricles, and other congenital heart defects.

Ours is the only program in New York State to be accredited by the Adult Congenital Heart Association (ACHA) as an Adult Congenital Heart Disease Comprehensive Care Center. We are widely recognized for our commitment to patients and success in providing the highest quality specialized healthcare.

Nurses and Doctors in the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program

Nurse Abigail Walsh, Dr. Frank Cecchin, Dr. Dan Halpern, and nurse Rachel Smaldone discuss a case.

We understand that if you need surgery, require treatments such as cardiac catheterization or mitral valve repair, or if you become pregnant, you may be at higher risk of complications. We are also experts in preventive care and monitoring for secondary conditions that can arise due to heart defects, such as heart failure or liver failure.

Patient care begins through our Congenital Heart Transition Program, where we help teenagers and young adults move from pediatric care, often through our Pediatric Congenital Heart Program, to adult care through the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program.

We assess each patient’s individual medical needs and work with physicians from various specialties to ensure you receive the care you need, including treatments such as cardiothoracic surgical care and cardiac catheterization. Additional specialties include:

Our nursing staff and anesthesiologists are also specially trained to understand the needs of a person with congenital heart disease, and they are key members of your care team.
