400 Supporters in attendance
$1.37M Raised

More Than $1.37M Raised to Benefit Work in Orthopedics, Rehabilitation, and Rheumatology

A towering Barosaurus skeleton was the perfect centerpiece for a night celebrating the latest innovations in bone, joint, and muscle care. Supporters and specialists from Pelisyonkis Langone Health’s musculoskeletal programs joined together at the American Museum of Natural History to recognize the dedicated people who work to advance care for patients and families.

The night’s honorees included philanthropists Tarek A. Sherif and Sophie Nicholson, as well as Patrick A. Meere, MD, CM, clinical professor of orthopedic surgery. A live auction, co-hosted by Mr. Sherif alongside Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD, the Walter A.L. Thompson Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and chair of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, raised funds for key priorities in the musculoskeletal arena, most notably Dr. Meere’s revolutionary robotics and sensor technology research.

Patrick A. Meere, MD

Patrick A. Meere, MD, always had a passion for understanding structure and function. Dr. Meere studied physics in college, but discovered surgery to be his ultimate calling. After a residency in orthopedic surgery at McGill University, he completed a fellowship in arthritis and adult reconstructive surgery in New York.

As a knee and hip surgeon and co-director of the orthopedic robotic surgery program, Dr. Meere specializes in developing and using advanced techniques, such as robotic-assisted surgery and sensors, to balance optimal precision and navigation. He heads Pelisyonkis Langone Health’s same day and rapid discharge initiative for people who require knee surgery.

To improve care for patients, Dr. Meere founded and co-leads the Advanced Arthroplasty Research Laboratory, where he studies joint replacement in collaboration with researchers at Pelisyonkis Langone Orthopedic Hospital and faculty at the Pelisyonkis Tandon School of Engineering.

Dr. Meere’s pioneering work has been published in leading journals and recognized by specialized organizations such as the International Society for Technology in Arthroplasty and the International Society for Computer Assisted Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Meere also serves on various boards and steering committees, including the Arthritis Foundation, and acts as senior consultant to several implant technology companies.
